The wonderful world of YouTube

I was having so much fun embedding stuff in my blog for everyone to watch(not sure all are work appropriate, I might have to review them and edit my posts) that I forgot to write about YouTube. This has been by far the funnest assignment yet! I watched library cart drill teams, found a new documentary called "Hollywood Librarian" that I must now watch, found a super librarian and other fun and silly things.

I also started sharing KRL2pt0 with my mom this week and she's been enjoying some of it as well.
My mom is in her early 50's and not really one to keep up to date with technology, she's much too busy for anything other than email and the news online. But I showed her LibraryThing, which she enjoyed and shared some of the better YouTube videos about library's with her, most of which were funny and we both laughed a lot. I've also showed her my blog and talked about some of the other new things I've been learning. Most of which she personally wouldn't use, but I keep telling her that all these new things are helping me be better at my job(I think she will be making her own LibraryThing account soon!).

Both of my parents are long time library patrons (mostly at the sylvan way branch) and are very enthused about the new features that are being put in place. My mom especially liked the new self pick up of holds and they have both told me that they will be some of the first to use self check out, as they have used that before in Spokane at the public library there.

Well I meant to write about YouTube, not my family! I could spend hours online watching videos, I don't have a camera or the creativity to post anything myself....but I enjoy the videos with cute babies, animals, things to do with libraries and comedy. I don't have a YouTube account, but I'm sure that's not really necessary if I just want to watch videos and send them to friends or post them in my blogs.

When is the KRL tutorial going to be up? I am eagerly awaiting more krl goodness....

Library "Things"

I love LibraryThing! Of everything that I've played with and learned about so far, it's the one thing that I think I will use most often. I've already put in some of my favorite books and I have many, many more to add. I also like that you can quickly and easily find other books by the same author and the search works great!

I'm going back to play with it more now but here is the link to my librarything:

photos, photos, everywhere

I'm not a stranger to flickr or other photo hosting sites. I found amazing photos and people that obviously know more about photography than I do. Though I myself prefer not to put my personal photos online I think it's an awesome way to share organization photos and if I had family far away it would be a really neat tool to send photos to them.

Since I've caught up on three weeks in one sitting my eyes are bugging out...so I am stepping away from the computer to enjoy the brief break in the clouds and will return another day.

Welcome to the Pod

Although I think podcasts are fun(and a great way to while away the hours) I don't think that I would actually subscribe to any....because I would want to subscribe to too many and unlike tagging or subscribing to RSS feeds, I don't think there is a way to organize them in any fashion.

So even though I think they are fun, I get somewhat overwhelmed by how many of them are out there! I think it would take too long for me to sift through all of them, so if anyone has a favorite that they would like to share with me, I'm always open to trying out what someone else likes !

:)

Catching Up To RSS

I think I have fallen in love.....with tabbed browsing that is. It's much simpler to keep track of several pages at once(which is what I do while working on krl2pt0) and you never lose information or your spot!

On to RSS feeds. Once I got the google reader set up it was pretty simple for me to click around and add what I needed to. Since I am an avid news junkie I could see how easy it made it to have everything right there, instead of searching around several different sites.

For some reason when I subscribed to krl2pt0 all it said was 'title unknown' has no new items. So I'm not sure if I've done it right(keeping my fingers crossed). All the other subscriptions worked just fine.

I think RSS is a great tool, I'm just not sure how much I would use it....I guess we shall see right? I find that all of these new things(or old things that I delve deeper into)are really fun to play around with and when I have more time I'm sure I will use them even more(now on to the next week, huff, huff).

A Post Script: I did figure out what I had done wrong and am now fully subscribed to Krl2pt0!
